Chickens

We raise two different flocks of chickens at Oak Forest. We keep a breeding flock of Silkie Bantam chickens as well as a flock of colorful egg laying full-size chickens. Our full size flock includes multiple breeds such as Easter Eggers, Black Copper Marans and Oliver eggers. All of our chickens have 24/7 access to the outdoors in predator-proof areas. They are also allowed to free-range under supervision to keep them safe from hawks and other wildlife.

We offer Farm Fresh Eggs for Sale at $4/dozen. Our supply varies based on time of year and our girl's natural egg-laying cycles.

When you purchase eggs from us they are unwashed. Why unwashed? Unwashed eggs have a natural protective coating or "bloom" on them, which decreases the risk of bacteria making it's way into the egg. Eggs that are unwashed also stay fresher longer - up to three months in your fridge!.

The eggs we sell are a mixture of full sized eggs and silkie bantam eggs, sometimes all of one or the other, it's up to the hens to decide what they'll lay for us on a given day. We feed all of our hens Kalmbach Layer Pellets - more information available here.
