Horse Boarding
*We currently do not have any openings for new boarders*
At Oak Forest Farms your horse is treated like one of our own. Our horses thrive on a natural pasture boarding system. 24/7 turnout allows freedom of movement, unlimited social interaction and encourages superior respiratory tract health. Our horses enjoy acres of turnout in thoughtfully selected social groups which allow natural behavior and interaction. Stall boarding is available for horses with specific medical needs or injuries that require confinement. Individual turnout is available for special cases.
Our boarders have free access to all of our on-farm facilities including out 3/8th mile graded track, 200'x200' outdoor sand arena, 50-foot round-pen and 10 acres of groomed, wooded trails. Our barn features grooming stations as well as a full-service wash rack with hot water. Please see our Facilities page for more information and photos.
Our pastures play an enormous role in our equine husbandry system. Because of this, we pay special attention to their grooming and maintenance. Our horse groups are regularly rotated to allow access to new forage and ease strain on grazed pastures. Our grazing areas are reseeded annually with horse-friendly forage. Pastures are harrowed weekly for manure management. We utilize beneficial insects to naturally control stable flies. All pastures have access to a three-sided run-in shed that is deeply bedded with sand.
We feed Triple Crown concentrate and hay based on each horse's individual needs. Additional supplements to be provided by owners as needed. For horses with a slow metabolism, we recommend grazing muzzles to prevent excessive forage intake. This allows these "easy-keepers" to stay with their social group and have plenty of movement while maintaining their metabolic health.
